First RTI benefit fraud prosecution

It was good to see a positive story about RTI data today. A press report from Beckenham in Kent tells of a woman who has been prosecuted for falsely claiming £12,000 in housing benefit when she lied about her partner losing his job when RTI data proved that was not the case. It is important to remember that RTI data is used by HMRC in respect of Tax Credits, DWP to flex Universal Credit and the other in-work benefits it controls and is passed out to local Government to validate Housing Benefit claims.
